The Easy Questions: The Twisted Scripture

Some might argue that regardless of his failed prophecy and fictional life stories, William Branham's objective was to bring the hearts and minds of the people back to the original faith of the fathers. He would often make statements describing "No creed but Christ; no law but love; no Book but the Bible," however when you examine his teaching of scripture we find subtle differences in context.

Rather than examining the entire chapter or book to read the scripture in context, Branham would often read one or two verses and claim to "build his context" upon those few words. Often, when you examine the subject matter of the sermon as compared to the subject matter in the chapter, the two seem to be in direct conflict. This can especially be found in the final sermons of his ministry, in sermons that seem to be promoting himself as our new "high priest."

Branham would often describe the punishment by God for adding to or taking away from scripture. The end of Revelation 22 is quoted often in the following of William Branham, describing ministers who twist the scriptures to fit their own agendas:

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
Revelation 22:18-19

But when we examine scriptures that are most often quoted by William Branham, we find words added or removed. Entire verses are combined with scriptures from other books in the Bible to invent new bible verses that are repeated and memorized in the following of William Branham.

The three most obvious:
  • I will be with you even in you until the end of the world.
  • As it was in the days of Noah wherein eight souls were saved, so shall it be at the coming of the son of man
  • This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased to dwell in.

These three scriptures were the foundation for three fundamental teachings of William Branham, and while only a few words were added, removed, or changed, the entire meaning of scripture was changed by only minor alteration.

I will be with you — even in you

William Branham promoted the Jehovah's Witness version of Jesus Christ, claiming that Jesus was just a man until his baptism. At baptism, Branham claimed that God poured Himself fully into Jesus to produce the "god-man," and that Jesus of the New Testament was Jehovah of the Old Testament. This teaching is modalism, which denies the triune nature of God, and was condemned as heresy by the early church.

Branham claimed that the original translation included three additional words: "even in you." These words, though not found in the King James Version that followers study, are still believed to be included in the original scrolls by most of the followers of William Branham. Many are shocked to find that there are no additional words in the original translation, and that this interpretation of scripture does not match the Word of God.

Only Eight Souls

William Branham planted the idea that he was sent to prepare a "little bride" for the return of Jesus Christ. According to Branham, all other Christians outside of his own following were the fulfillment of the "foolish virgins" in the parable given by Christ in Matthew 25. Branham's vision of the future included a world condemned for failure to listen to his ministry, and as "the final messenger," God would close the door to the Branhm's ark.

To promote this idea of "eight souls," William Branham combined two scriptures, from two books, with two different contextual meanings. The first, Matthew 24, is describing the sudden coming of Christ that will catch many unaware.

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

The second comes from 1 Peter chapter 3. In this passage, Peter is describing God's patience and faithfulness. The entire world can be passing away, but if you are sheltered in the arms of God, you are under His protection. He will never leave you, never forsake you, and even if you are the last eight souls on the face of the planet, God is still faithful.

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

"But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." was combined with "wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water" to create the new bible verse William Branham promoted: "As it was in the days of Noah wherein eight souls were saved, so also shall the coming of the Son of Man be."

Born Liars

Taking two scriptures from Psalms, William Branham blended them together to teach the idea that we were all born liars. Branham would often describe our "earthly tabernacles" as being "born in sin shaped, in iniquity, come to the world speaking LIES" While both portions of the combined scripture do come from verses in the Bible, these two scriptures are referring to two groups of people: The good and the evil.

Psalm 51:5 describes the fallen state of mankind, how we are born into a sinful state that requires the blood of a lamb for our forgiveness. It continues in the next verse describing God's faithfulness even in our fallen condition, and how we are to seek truth:

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Psalm 51:5-6

But according to scripture, it is not the righteous that are born liars. While the righteous seek truth, the evil speak lies:

The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
Psalm 58:3

I can see John standing out there preaching, but he stirred all the regions around about Jordan. Here come down Jesus: was baptized of him. When He went straightway out of the water and the heavens opened, said, "This is My beloved Son in Whom I am pleased to dwell in." Jesus went forth... Now, it comes to our text, our place quickly. And with such a shifting condition as we're in today, how can faith rest itself? You got to come back to the Bible, back to the truth. And when Jesus, a carpenter's Son, physically speaking, when He come to the earth here that's all He was known of, and the day that when John baptized Him, God a vindicated Him. God spoke from the heavens. John saw Him coming in the form a dove, and said, "This is My beloved Son in Whom I'm pleased to dwell." The right translation there is, "In whom I am pleased to dwell in." Jesus immediately anointed with God, He was just a man till that time, but now He becomes the God-man. Someone telling me here not long ago, as I many times referred to it in this shiftless day, that He was just a prophet, He was a good man. He was more than that. He was the anointed God. The Bible said, "God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself." God in Christ. Amen. Notice it. How beautiful. The Father, speaking from the heavens, when He was obedient to baptism, said, "This is My beloved Son in Whom I'm pleased to dwell in." No wonder Jesus could say, "All the power in heavens and earth is given unto My hands." Here He goes. Now, let's watch His life. I think, is a beautiful, the first thing that we see Him doing, beginning to pray for the sick. Let's take Him in one of His first meetings in Luke the 1st chapter. Now, let's type back and see what Jesus was that day.

And at the baptismal service when he was baptizing, he saw Jesus coming with a Light following Him. And He said, "Behold, the Lamb of God that take away the sin of the world." And Jesus was baptized; the Holy Spirit came from out of heaven, and a Voice from It, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am pleased to dwell." The original translation says, "In Whom I am pleased to dwell in." Which God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself. He was God in flesh. Now, now, let's notice what kind of a life that He did. And I want to ask you something, you people as we're talking. What He was then, He should be... If that's the faith that He introduced to the world, that ought to be the faith that we should contend for tonight. Is that right? That's right. It should be. All right.

Our Father, we thank Thee, that Thou has said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I'm well pleased, or, pleased to dwell in." The laws is passed, all of the self-wills and self-sacrifices and so forth, has faded away. But Jesus remaineth forever. And tonight, there may be men and women here who have never made a stand for the Lord Jesus. Now, You speak to their hearts, Father, while I pray. And I pray for every one here, that if they've never made a stand, at the closing of this revival this night, that they would make that one all sufficient stand, convinced in their hearts that Jesus is their Saviour. We ask it in His Name.

Watch the ministry of the Holy Ghost. Watch it today. When it comes back... The Church has gradually been coming down. When it... The first reformation was Luther. We had a great big wide place: Justification by faith. The Church was shook. Then come along Wesley, the second big revival. It shook it down to sanctification. The Church become in the minority, greatly in the minority. Then after that come Pentecost, the restoration of the gifts. It shook it down now to just a little thing, like a pyramid coming up. But right at the end time before the capstone can come to the pyramid, what about it? What is it? Then the Church is really in the minority. As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the coming of the Son of man, where eight soulswas saved by water. Now, the coming of the Son of man, what is it? The Church come from justification, sanctification, baptism of the Holy Spirit, and now, both former and latter rain come in, and it is close approaching, as my hand is a shadow it becomes closer, darker, darker, darker, and it becomes hand and shadow is the same.

He said what they were doing in the days of Noah: eating, drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage. See?

61-0216 THE MARK OF THE BEAST AND THE SEAL OF GOD.1

Truth is got to be known. God's just. He gives His warning. Why'd Noah stand in the door preaching when He knowed they wasn't coming in? He prepared the ark for the saving of his household. What it was. But he had to give the message just the same. God is just. God knew they wasn't coming. He knowed just exactly eight souls would be saved in the days of Noah, just as in the last, same as He knows this generation. He knows who will and who won't. But He — He knows it, well that's the reason He said, "As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the coming of the Son of man." See? And we know we're living in a tremendous time, but we... you're duty... Your — your heart cries out; you can't hold your peace. You got to say it.

Oh, just think of where we're living now. When John came on the scene, the little church was certainly in the minority, but there was empty vessels to pour the Oil in. Hallelujah. God, let us empty ourselves up. Get empty, friends. Get weak. Deny your own ability. You out in radio — not radio, but out in — that hear these tapes, wherever they come, empty yourselves out. Pour yourselves out upon God's altar as a sacrifice. Let the Angel come with a coal of Fire, fill that vessel with the power of Almighty God and get... Trees, cut down, the way they started in the world, cut down first, that's every man comes into the world, born in sin, and shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies, undone, unlovely, ungodly, away from God, alienated, without hope, without Christ, dying, going to a sinner's grave, ready for the judgment.
55-0522 THE.ARK_ JEFFERSONVILLE.IN

Now, Abraham being an alien, alienated from God like all we sinners, alienated from God, without hope, without — without Christ, in the world, sinners by nature... All of us was born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies, without one exception. Your father or mother might've been so sainted, until they never said a bad word, kept all the laws, went to church, sanctified, holy, and filled with the Holy Spirit, all that God would have for them, and yet you are born in sin. Everyone one that comes to God is born the same way. Everyone comes into the world is born the same way: sexual desire. Only one that was ever born without it, that was our precious Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost in the womb of Mary.
56-0223 GOD'S.COVENANT.WITH.ABRAHAM.AND.HIS.SEED

We are sold in sin. Our parents sold us out to sin in the garden of Eden. And we are later — laden under the bonds of sin as a slave to the devil. We were born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. There's nothing we can do to help us, 'cause our whole makeup, our whole nature, and everything we are is sin. But when the jubilee time comes, that we are free... And the trumpet is the Gospel, the good news. The trumpet was the Gospel then: good news. You're no longer bound. You no longer have to live in sin. You can go home and be free. You don't owe any debts at all. The whole emancipation of proclamation is done signed and you are free.
56-0715 THE.MARK.OF.THE.BEAST

I know it's a privilege. It belongs to you because you were born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies; but will you forfeit it to become a lamb? The Lamb wasn't a grumbler. The Bible said, "He opened not His mouth. When he was reviled, reviled not again." But oh, that's the reason that the Dove could stay on the Lamb. But us, just let someone do something against us, and we get hot in the collar. What happens? The Lamb... The Dove takes its flight. The Holy Spirit leaves. Many times you wonder why can't we have that peace that we used to have. There's something took the Dove away. That's right.
56-0917 THE.LAMB.AND.THE.DOVE

"He that believeth not is condemned already." Before you even get started you're condemned. You're born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. No matter how much you was dedicated on the altar, how many times you were sprinkled, baptized, poured, whatever it is, you're still a sinner, that's all, until you repent and God recognizes and seals that promise with the Holy Spirit.
56-1215 HEAR.YE.HIM_

Now, what did Elijah represent? Elijah represent the sternness or the justice of God. God knows we don't — we don't plead for judgment or justice. I plead for mercy, not for justice. How can we receive justice when we're born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies? Our very being here, God would condemn. He's already condemned it.
57-0105 HEAR.YE.HIM

So it's nothing you could do. You're a sinner, to start with. You're shaped in iniquity. You're born in sin, come to the world speaking lies. You were born here in this world by a sexual desire of your father and mother. And you're just as hell-bound as you can be, I don't care what you do. You might never lie, steal; keep every commandment, and everything else; and you'll go to hell, like a martin to its box. But the only way that you ever can live again, is to accept the Holy Spirit, God's Eternal Life. What made you what you are? In the beginning, when the Holy Ghost brood over the earth, there wasn't nothing but volcanic eruption. A little Easter flower come up. God said, "That looks pretty. Just keep brooding." Flowers come up. Grass come up. Trees come up. Birds flew out of the dust. Animals come up. A man come up. Now, how was it done? By the brooding of the Holy Spirit, bringing these materials together, potash, calcium; making the flowers, making animal, making you.

And you legalists: how could you ever perfect yourself, when you have not one thing to perfect yourself with? You were born in sin. Your very conception was in sin. The very desire of you being here was sin. "Born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies." Now where are you going to stand at? Where you, sinner, that — that said, "I'll quit smoking. I'll go to Heaven"? Where are you, lukewarm, mossback, so-called Christian, that goes around here with a long face and saying, that, "Well, I belong to the church"? You sinner. That's right. And you don't have one thing; there's no priest, no bishop, no cardinal, no pope, nor nothing else can save you, 'cause he's just the same boat that you're in. We're getting into it in a few minutes. Just in the same shape he was. The pope of Rome was born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies, born by the sexual desire of a man and a woman. Where you going to get righteous out of that? "Well, his papa and mama were born the same way, and they were born the same way, and his grandma and grandpa and on back." It's sin, to begin with!

Now, when you come to the age of accountability, and you know what's wrong and right, you're supposed to turn from your wrong. Because you're born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies, that you're — you're actually born as a sexual desire, and then you must be borned again in order to receive a new birth to enter into Heaven. Because this kind of a birth you have here... You see where the Jehovah Witness would be so far wrong there, to think that the new birth is the resurrection of the body. You see? It couldn't be. See? It's got to be something...
58-0927 WHY.ARE.WE.NOT.A.DENOMINATION

Now, a deep sleep fell upon Abraham, and he looked, and before him went a — a smoking furnace. Every sinner that dies and every man that's born in this world comes through sexual birth; it's subject to death. We're all sinned and come short of the glory of God, and every man is born in this world a sinner. I don't care how holy your parents was, you come to this world the same way a sinner or anybody else comes. We are... You are sinful. "We are born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies," says the Word. You're — you're — you're whipped to begin with. And then, every mortal that dies, hell is his resting place. That's all the rest he gets; that come before Abraham. Notice, then beyond that, after death comes hell, but beyond hell come a little white Light. Oh, my. Blessed be the Name of the Lord. That little white Light passed up-and-down between those sacrifices. He said, "You see, Abraham, what I'm going to do?" He was confirming the covenant with Abraham. Now, maybe I'll explain that quickly.
60-0716 FROM.THAT.TIME

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your heavenly Father is perfect," Jesus said. How can you be perfect? You can't do it. You was born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. But when you accept Christ as your sin-bearer, when you accept Him by faith, you believe that He saved you, and He died in your place and took your sins, then God accepts you and baptizes you into the Body and cannot see no more sin. How can I be a sinner when there's an atonement on the altar for me?
60-0911E FIVE DEFINITE IDENTIFICATIONS OF THE TRUE CHURCH OF THE LIVING GOD

What did He do? The wrath of God was upon us for being sinners. Is that right? No one could save hisself. There's nothing we could do, we're all "Born in sin, shaped iniquity, come to the world speaking lies." And what did He do? He came to the earth, Hallelujah, and tread the winepress! All the wrath of Almighty God was poured out upon Him. "Thou art worthy, O Lamb of God, for You were slain." Taking the sins of the world upon Him, and He bore our sin, that God poured out the fierceness of His wrath upon Him. "And He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquity, the chastisement of our peace upon Him, and with His stripes we were healed." Never a man died like that Man! He suffered until the blood and water separated in His body. And drops of blood dropped out of His brow before His death. ... the winepress of the... wrath... of the fierceness... of Almighty God.
60-1204E THE.PATMOS.VISION

If... You're not condemned because you are a sinner; you're condemned because you don't accept Jesus as your Saviour. Now, God would be unjust to condemn you and not make a preparation for you to come out of it, because you were borned in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. No matter who your parents was, or what they were, you're still just a sinner, as any other child, when you're born in this world. We're all born in sin. We could not save ourself. We could no more save ourself, than we could take our boot straps and lift ourself over the moon. We could not do it. We're totally helpless. And therefore, God would not condemn you on those basis because you are a sinner. He'd condemn you because you refuse to take the way of escape. So therefore, it isn't God; it's yourself. You condemn yourself. And when you condemn yourself, there's nobody to pity but yourself. That's all. We're... You — you must pity yourself, because you haven't accepted God's provided way of escape. Now, when God makes His ways, just wonder wh — how He feels when He makes a way for us, for our healing, for our salvation, for our comfort, for our peace, and all these things, and we just walk away and leave them. It must make Him feel terribly bad.
61-0125 WHY_ BEAUMONT.TX

Now, sleep means death. And when he opened his eyes and looked, there was a smoking furnace. That's where every sinner goes, where we all deserve to go. A smoking furnace went out; that's hell, where every — every man and woman that's born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come into the world speaking lies, that's exactly where we deserve to go.
61-0210 ABRAHAM'S.COVENANT.CONFIRMED

Now, to begin with, to base back, the reason we have to be born again is because the Bible teaches us that we were all born in sin, shaped in iniquity, and come to this world speaking lies. Then that shows us that our nature, to begin with, is sinful to start with. We're no good to begin with. So we cannot claim anything by our shrewdness, our sincerity, or how great we are, how little we are, or — or whatevermore, we are altogether wrong to begin with. And there is nothing at all that we can do about it.

First, we reckon ourselves sinners and worthy of condemnation. And we are all born in sin and shaped in iniquity; there's not a sound parcel of us. Our minds are bad; our soul is corruptible; our constant thinking is evil, every imaginary thought of a man's mind is evil, a sinner; and also that our body is weak; our spirit is no good; and we're just full of corruption. And how could one corruptible thing bring another good thing out of a corruptible? Let me say this, that in Job, 14th chapter he said, "Seeing that man is born of a woman, is full of sorrow and trouble, yet he cometh forth like a flower, he fadeth away." And on, as the prophet goes on speaking, he said, "Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one." You stick your bucket down into the well and pull out a bucket of water, and it's stagnant, it stinks; you look in it, and it's muddy, and little worms is in that water; there's no way at all to put your bucket back and get a clean bucket. The whole well is contaminated. And the whole soul, mind, and body of man is contaminated with sin, and born in sin, physically, shaped in iniquity, and come to the world speaking lies, so that his own soul is contaminated: nothing good. One cannot redeem the other, because it's all wrong. And you can't take a bucketful of water here that's contaminated, and another bucketful that's contaminated and mix them together; you've got more contamination. There's no purification to it.

And, Lord God, let us bear the Spirit of God, because we are Christians. We believe in You. We believe in the Son of God. Now, Lord, I'm unworthy, but take... Who is worthy? Who is worthy, Lord? None of us. We're all born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. Forgive us of our — our filth, Lord. And now use us in this last day that You're dealing with the human race. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Then, "Except a man be born again." Why must he be born again? He's dead, with the flesh he's in. He's a hybrid. He's got to be born again. Why? He was born in sin, from Eve's sin, shaped in iniquity; come to the world, speaking lies. He's a liar, to begin with. No matter how smart, educated, whatmore he is, he's a liar. The Bible says he is. How holy his parents was, or anything about it; he's a liar, to begin with. And the only way he can tell Truth, is say what Truth is, through his own lips. That's the only way Truth can come. Anything contrary to that Word, he's a liar, yet. That's pretty flat, but that's what God said. Uh-huh. "Let every man's word be a lie, and Mine be true." See? Anything that comes from his lips, contrary, to deny this Word, or put It in some other race or some other generation, or whatever it is, he's a liar. That's exactly. He's got to be born again, then he sees every Word. The only way he can be born again, is that Life of God in him, to produce that Life.

Now, but... See? God, when He passed the judgment upon Adam and Eve, she was already done the sin before He could pass the judgment. And listen, did you ever know that the first child was ever borned in the world was borned in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies? The very first one that was ever born was born that way, because... "And so what about Adam and Eve?" They wasn't born. They were created. See? But the first child ever come was born in sin, so it has to be that line. "A man that's born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble." He's borned in sin. That's the reason he has to be reborned again (See?) by the Spirit, not by a spiritual thought; by spiritual birth (See?) that regenerates him, makes him a new creature. The first man was born was borned in sin.

We feel that a baby has no sin, no more than its sin that it was borned in. We're all born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. And, now, when Jesus died at Calvary, He took away the sins of the world. Then the baby could have been born, or it might have died before it was born; or born before it comes to the age of accountability, it has no sins. Jesus took away the sins of the world. But after it gets old enough and commits sin, then it's got to confess its sins and then be baptized for the remission of its sins, you see. But now, of course, it's too young.

And so baptism is a confession that an inward work of grace has been done. And the little infants has no knowledge of sin. Therefore, when Jesus died at the cross, He died to take away the sin of the world. And when the baby is becomes a human being, and borned into this world, they have no sin of their own, therefore they have no repentance to be done. But, when that, the Blood of Jesus Christ takes away that sin. Course, the baby is born in sin, shaped in iniquity, comes to the world speaking lies, and they're sinners by nature, but the Blood of Jesus Christ atones for that. But when the baby is comes to the age of accountability, and knows what's right and wrong, then it has to repent for what it has done. Its sin now is the sin just like it's born in sin, it's the human sin, the sin now is the sin that Adam and Eve did; and that was omitted by God, by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Now the baby has no sins to repent from until he sins, then he's got to repent. See? And when he repents, then is the time to be baptized, and then he's baptized by immersing.

I can't stand over in this corner and say 'this will help me get out of jail,' I stand over in that corner and say 'that will help me get out of jail,' we're all in the same fix. And every man that was born in this world was born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies. He's a renegade, to begin with."

Now, we have a book called the history; it said George Washington never told a lie. I doubt that. I doubt that. Yes, sir. I'm... I — I — I don't — don't believe that. A kid can come up... "You're born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies," says the Bible. So I — I doubt that historical point of George Washington. But it only tells the good side of man. The Bible tells both side of men. Lot was a good man down in Sodom. "The sins of the city vexed His righteous soul." But it didn't fail to tell that he lived with his own daughter and had a child, though, see. It tells both sides of it. So we must tell both sides.

Look, to show it's the ones that He thought of, His thoughts is the Christian of today, the thoughts before the foundation of the world. Now remember, "Man, when he was born in sin, shaped in iniquity, comes to the world speaking lies." Is that right? [Congregation says, "Amen." — Ed.]
64-0216 IDENTIFICATION

And a man is a failure, to begin with. I don't care who he is. "He is born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies," so he's a total failure. I don't care if he's a bishop, pope, presbyter, or whatevermore he might be. He is a failure, to begin with, and don't never look to one. I don't care, "Though he moves mountains with faith, and though he gives all of his goods to feed the poor." Still, look at Jesus Christ. He is the One. Look to Him, not at some man. Find now that He was showing here what a servant of God must be, how he must be humble and reverent and in action. Go into action! Many of us can be humble, many of us can be reverent, but it's hard to get them in action. But now we notice that God was showing how He was preparing His servant, what he must be. Those Cherubims were, or — or Seraphims, was God's servants.

And, remember, if you never was in God's thoughts, you'll never be with God. How many knows that He was a redeemer? [Congregation says, "Amen." — Ed.] Well, then, anything redeemed has to come back to where it fell from. So if He come to redeem us, how could we, was one time didn't have to be redeemed, and we were all "born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies"? It shows that the real Christian is an attribute of God's thinking, before there was a world, or a star, or a air, or anything else. It's Eternal, and He come to redeem us back. It's God's thought, spoke into a word, made manifest and re-... brought back to His thought. Kinsman Redeemer! That's the reason God Himself had to become one of us, to redeem. Nothing else could do it. An Angel couldn't do it, nothing else. He had to come down, be tempted like we are, to redeem us.

All right. Notice this. Ordinarily, a human being is born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world, speaking lies. That's the nature of a human being. [Sister Bruce says, "Yes." — Ed.] That was your nature. It changed once. But what changed it? ["Christ."] There you are, sister. See? That's it.

Now, it's a perfect example of any kind of a man-made system. He is a failure, to begin with. That's the reason he needs a Saviour. He could not save himself, he cannot do nothing for it. He is lost, to begin with. He is borned in the world, sinful, he comes to the world speaking lies. He is a liar, to start with, so how in the world can he do anything for himself? How can a holy man? There is no holy man. There is no holy church. It's a Holy Ghost! Not a holy church, a holy people; it's a Holy Ghost among a people, that's what it is. Amen. Not a holy mountain where Peter and them stood; the mountain wasn't holy. But it's the holy God, on the mountain, that made it holy. Not a holy person; it's the Holy Ghost used in that person, what makes it holy. Not the person; but the Person of the Holy Ghost! It isn't the man; because, he's just a man, "born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies."

Although, they only was His attributes, to begin with. But if God said, "In this day," back in the beginning, "John Doe will be My servant," millions of years ago. Now, John Doe is born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies, because he's a mortal. But, maybe, he gets a little religious feeling. He'll go join a church. Now, inside of that is a spirit, which you become when you're born in the earth and the breath of life is breathed into him. That spirit is of a worldly nature because it was not given from God, but it was (given) permitted by God. Now you got that? For, every child that's born in the world, "is born in sin, shaped in iniquity; come to the world speaking lies." That right? So, that person, inside there, is a sinner, to begin with. Now, but...

There is nothing left in it when a man draws his — his life through a God's Filter; notice, here your life was all messed up with sin, because you were "born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies." I'm going to say something, as Brother McCullough used to say. Listen to me. When you come in this world, you were born in sin. You didn't even come with a fighting chance. You were "born in sin, shaped in iniquity, come to the world speaking lies," within your own spirit, the desire of sin, a lover of sin because you were born in sin. You didn't have a chance. But down inside of you, somewhere, here you come, there was something in there that begin to draw. If you knowed, it was something that told you there was a God somewhere; and you read His Word. Then you took the church, you took their ideas when you was told better, then you never used a thinking man's Filter. But when you use God's Filter, which is a thinking man's Filter, because, "All other filters will pass away, but Mine shall not." And when you take God's Filter and draw your life, your desires; if you draw your desires through God's Filter, a thinking man's Filter, there is nothing left but the Holy Ghost. Now, if you want the evidence of the Holy Ghost, there it is. When that soul of yours will line with the Word of God, in every respect, it shows you've drawed your life through the thinking man's Filter, God's Filter.
