Deep Study: Prophets

Those who have been involved or influenced with the ministry of William Branham share a viewpoint on prophecy that makes it quite difficult to witness and discuss scripture. Following in the fooststeps of Dowie, Russell, and Smith, Branham promoted the idea that the prophets of old were leaders, and any who did not follow the leader was abandoned by God. Each major event in the Bible was given the label of an "age," and each of the men in the scriptures became "prophets" for their "age."

Men who lived before the timeline of the prophets in the Old Testament were elevated to the status of "prophet," which Branham claimed to be the highest form of leadership — higher even than the high priests under the Levitical priesthood.

As Branham taught from the Old Testament, he promoted the idea that prophets were "God's gift" to the people, and to reject that gift was to reject eternal life. All prophets were likened to Noah, and to reject the "messenger" was to shut the spiritual "door" to the ark, which represented his own ministry.

One of the fundamental milestones in Branham's life stories was the 1933 baptism, which was and is compared to the story in the Gospels where John baptized Jesus. But rather than God speaking from the heavens to announce His only Son Jesus, Branham's tale included a God who announced himself [William Branham]. By association, Branham implied that he was the "gift" for this age.

Branham's descriptions of prophets were men who could peer into the future. This, according to Branham, was a divine gift from God — no matter which religion, herbs and spices, or even astrology produced the "gift." Balaam, for instance, had the same "annointing" that Moses had according to Branham's teaching.

To further the doctrine on prophetic leadership, Branham claimed that God only sent one prophet for each "age." To reject this single leader was to reject God, while acceptance of the man and his message was to inherit eternal salvation. This creates a problem, since there were multiple prophets prophesying at the same time during several events in the Old Testament. It would seem as though this is the reason that several books of the Bible were avoided during the recorded sermons from 1947 to 1965.

The Bible tells a much different story, and seems to expose the weakness of the prophets for a purpose. Until the Mosaic Law was given, men spoke directly to God. Abraham, for instance, walked with God fully in Grace without Law. God spoke to Sarah, and even Hagar — no vision required.

For a period of time, God ruled and reigned supreme over the people. Men relied upon the Lord for their provision, their protection, their guidance, and their salvation, and though we find instances of visions given by God, we don't find mention of the label "prophet" until much later in scripture.

The people wanted to see a man in power, one that they could see and hear in physical form, and the Bible describes God allowing the people to elect kings into political power. Again, during this time period, we do not find men labeled "prophets," but instead "judges." Time after time, mankind fell to idolatry, adultery, and many other types of sin, and we find judges to issue correction and acts of warfare to free the people from oppression.

These kings were the leaders of Israel, long before the first prophet is mentioned. Again and again, a king would rise, bring the people into righteousness, and then fall again to worse sin. Israel continually drifted further and further away from the Old Covenant, until finally, they had trespassed against each of the commandments.

According to the Old Covenant, there were over three hundred blessings given for keeping the Law — but there were also over three hundred curses for abandoning or breaking that Law. As the law began to fail, we start seeing the first prophets sent by God.

The most obvious error with this idea that prophets were leaders instead of voices of the Covenant is exposed when you review the timeline of the prophets compared to the timeline of Israel. You'll quickly notice that God's Voice was confirmed by the mouths of more than one human, starting in the days of King Jereoboem II. Jonah, Joel, and Amos were all speaking to God's children as the punishments began.

During the time of Babylonian captivity, this was amplified with God's voice being spoken by multiple prophets in both Babylon and Jerusalem. Daniel and Ezekiel were speaking God's Voice to those in captivity while Jeremiah, Obadiah, and Habakkuk were speaking God's Voice to the Jews in Jerusalem.

Christ, speaking of this period of time, associates the prophets with the Mosaic Law. According to the book of Luke, Jesus tells us that both the Law and the prophets were until John the baptist prepared the way for Jesus Christ. Since then, the Good News, or the Gospel of the Kingdom was proclaimed."

"The Law and the prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.
Luke 16:16

The prophets described in the Bible were not "seers of future," as Branham taught. They all spoke a resounding message to Israel: "You have failed, and the Old Covenant has been broken. Because of this, I [God] will bring the curses, plagues, slavery, and captivity that I promisted. But I will send a redeemer to free you from this curse."

Though it was given in symbol, the prophets all declared the coming "Day of the Lord," the day of Israel's redemption. God gave very accurate descriptions of the current events and future punishment, but the Messiah was hidden in mystery in preparation for Jesus Christ. The final book of the prophets, Malachi, focused primarly upon the coming Messiah.

Also, while Branham promoted the idea that the very last chapter of Malachi pointed to himself, the scroll of Malachi had no chapters, verses, or lines. The "title line" of the scroll contained the words, "The oracle of Malachi written to Israel." After Malachi, the final punishments for abandoning the Old Covenant were executed against Israel. Ultimately, this led to Roman captivity, which produced the settings described in the Gospels for the coming Savior and Redeemer of Israel.

Branham's teachings on Prophets:

Then, God has given me a gift that I might maybe do something else. It's a gift of being a seer, or a prophet, or whatever you want to call it: servant with a Divine gift that come on when I was a baby, a little bitty baby.

And when they seen that taking place (the manifestation, the Anointed Messiah), they turned It down. They didn't want It. It wasn't in their taste. That's the pitiful part. How many...? Just think of it! Just as in other days. See, each had their own interpretation of the Word. That's what... the reason Israel didn't recognize Moses. That's the reason the world didn't recognize Noah. That's the reason all the prophets wasn't recognized. They have their own interpretation of the Word. But God, in every age, has had His Messiah. To reject Noah's Message, was to rejecting God. To reject Noah, was to perish. To reject Moses, was to perish. It was... They were the Anointed Messiah's for that age, the Word that was promised for that age. And when Jesus came, He was the fullness of the Word. God, Himself, made into a man's structure, with bones and flesh; the Anointed One. And they should've seen that. But you see, their — their church world had so added here and taken away here and — and so forth, until it was so messed up till they — they trusted in their church in the stead of — of the Word. Notice, the Word always comes to the prophet. God never did work through a group of people. It's an individual He works through. He worked in the days of Noah, through Noah. He worked in the days of Moses, through Moses. Worked in the days of Elijah, through Elish-... -lijah, through Elisha and Elijah. Through Isaiah and those prophets, as they came down through the age. And then when He was here, He was manifested fully; not in Pharisees, Sadducees, but in Jesus Christ. He was the Word. That's why He could say what He said. That's the statements that He could make. Now, these Greeks knew of this, see.

Enoch! (In ten minutes we'll go, if you can just suffer that much longer.) Look, Enoch was the living Word of God of his age, he was a prophet. A prophet is God's reflector. How many knows that? The — the reflector doesn't reflect itself, the — the reflector isn't the reflection. There has to be something strike the reflector — reflector to make it reflect. So a prophet is a chosen vessel of God that cannot reflect nothing at all but he's in direct line with that reflection, God, to reflect the image of Christ the Word. See, nothing else can do it. You are a reflector, that's the reason the prophet had to eat the book. That's the reason he had to eat the scroll. He had to reflect that Word for that age. You got it?

That's the sign of the Messiah. Don't you see? It was the Messiah that was in Moses. It was the Messiah that was in Enoch. It was Messiah in every age. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It's Christ all the time. Said, "I know. We know that when the Messiah cometh, that's what He is going to do." He said, "I am He that speaks to you." Oh, my! Upon that, she dropped the waterpot, run into the city, and said, "Come, see a Man Who has told me what I done. Isn't this the very Messiah?" And the people of that city, without seeing it done, the whole city believed on Him. That's right. Why? His characteristic of what He was. He was identified to that city of Sychar. He was identified, the Messiah of God, by His character, characteristic was in Him. Cause, He was — He was the God of the prophets. He was the Prophet. He was the Prophet manifested. Now we find here that Enoch was the seventh from Noah, which was a type of the church ages. Now, all of the rest of the six men, before him, died, but Enoch was translated. Enoch was raptured, the seventh, showing that it's the seventh church age that takes the Rapture. Now, there's no doubt, we're in the seventh church age. We all know it. Now, it's the seventh church age that takes the Rapture. All of the other six died. But Enoch was translated, because, "He was not found. God took him." But Enoch, raptured, was a type of all of the rest of them dying. But the — the end-time Bride will be called out of the... What is a prophet? The one the Word comes to, is the Word of God again. In the time of — of Noah, they sent it. In Moses' time, the whole system was falling apart, they sent a prophet. In Elijah's time, the whole system was falling apart, they sent a prophet. Every time, when the world gets in this chaos, they send a prophet. And then at this first Christmas, He sent the Word in Its fulness, see, the Word! A portion of the Word in a prophet, prophet had the Message for that age, and he went forth.

That's what Elijah was in his age. That's what Moses was in his age. That's what Noah was in his age. That's what, everywhere, every prophet ever come. And the — the Word, when It come in fulness, the entire Word made flesh among us, It did just exactly what It said It would do in that age. If It come today, He would be just exactly Jesus Christ living out His promise of what He promised to do, just as the Word. He was the Word. Isaiah 9:6 is Jesus Christ. And when It was made flesh and dwelt among us, It lived just exactly what It did. Moses said over there, in the Book of Exodus, "The Lord your God," or Deuteronomy, "the Lord your God shall raise up a prophet, likened unto me; and it shall come to pass, whoever will not hear Him, will be cut off from amongst the — the people." And when He come, He did just exactly what the Word said He would do. And they found fault with Him, because their systems had cut It off and made the Word of God non-effective to them. See? They couldn't believe such things as That. They couldn't believe those kind of things, because it was passed the time, they thought. Oh!

Prophets are the chief sign. God's chief sign is a prophet. Now I'm going to speak a few minutes about that. They are His Word made manifest for that age, and that's the reason a prophet is always God's chief sign. He has never sent a judgment upon the earth without first sending a prophet. Just see, and search the Scriptures. A prophet is the chief sign of God, to His people, that He has sent this person, this certain person, like Noah, like Moses, and — and Elijah and the prophets. He sends them to manifest the Word for that age, to give His people a warning. Just the same as He sends a cold spell upon the ducks, to run them from the North to the South; continuity in nature, continuity in the Word, He never fails to do it. If it takes cold weather to run them down, next year it takes cold weather to run them down. If it takes hot weather to run them back, the next year it takes hot weather to run them back.

God in every age allotted His Word from the beginning, and every time in which one of those ages passed by, God sends down an anointed prophet for that age. In the days of Noah, days of all the rest of them, when He made the promises. I don't care what kind of a condition the church got into, He always does that, He sends a man anointed. For the Word of the Lord comes to the prophets. And here he stood there, each prophet, and was condemned by the organizations of that day, but he stood on the Word and made the Word live.

So was Noah the Light in his day. He was the Light. Noah was that Light. He was the Light to what? To make God's Word, "I will destroy man upon the earth, that I've created. Build an ark, and all desires to come into it will be saved." Noah walked out there, said, "There is one way, and that's the ark." They said, "The old crazy fanatic." He was the Word made manifest. Noah was the Light of the hour, sure was. His day, his age, he sprung forth the Light. Moses was the Light of his hour. "I'll surely visit you," God said to Abraham. "And I'll come down, and I'll take out My people, with a strong hand, and I'll show My power in Egypt." And when Moses up there met that burning bush up there, and found out the I AM was in that bush, Moses went down there, and he was the Light. Amen. No wonder he could take some dust, and blow it up and say, "Let there come fleas upon the earth." He had the Word of God. What happened? The dust begin to blow, and the fleas begin to come into existence. Hallelujah! Why? He was a manifestation of the Light of God's Word, "I'll plague Egypt." He was a prophet. What he said come to pass. He was the Light of that day. He was God's Light.

Yet, Noah was a type of the remnant that's carried over, not the translated bunch. Enoch, one man, went in the Rapture before the flood came, showing that the Church does not go into the tribulation or anything around it. Enochwas translated, one man. Oh, the church may be a number; but the Bride is going to be a very small group that'll make up the Bride. Now, the church may be a great number; but, the Bride, you see, compare eight with one. Eight times less, will be the Bride, than the church. "And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where will the sinner and the ungodly appear," those who know better, to do it, and go ahead and do it anyhow? Those who follow the rules of denomination instead of the Word, where will they appear at, yet called Christians, taking the Name of Christ?

And Elijah. After bawling out bobbed-haired women and everything, as he did in his day, Jezebels with the paint on them, after he got so full of it, and — and had done all he could, and all them priests making fun of him, and everything else, he walked down at the river one day. And just across the river was the horses hitched to a bush over there, a chariot of fire and horses of fire. He stepped right on, and threw his robe off to the next prophet to follow him, and went up into Heaven. He accepted the leadership of Eternal Life, 'cause it was Christ that was in Elijah. Oh! Yes, sir! What was it? "Follow Me!" Now you must choose your leader. You've got to choose it, friends. Look in God's looking glass, the Bible, and see where you're at tonight.

There never was in the age, any two major prophets on the earth at one time. There were many minor prophets, but there were one major prophet. And Elijah was the prophet until Elisha came. Then when Elijah was taking off, a portion, a double portion of Elisha's Spirit... Elijah's Spirit came upon Elisha. See, always remember this, God takes His man off the earth, but never takes His Spirit; His Spirit comes right back down this way: It come upon Elijah; went off of Elijah onto Elisha; off of Elisha, and come on John the Baptist; off of John the Baptist, is predicted to come again in the last days; the same Spirit. See? It's God's Spirit.

God doesn't deal with groups of men. God deals with an individual, because men has different ideas. He's built up different, in nature. God has to take that man, and mess him around, and pull him around, out of his own self, till He gets him in His nature. See? And then God deals with that person. Look all down through the ages, Noah and Moses, the prophets, never two of them at the same time. One, constantly, all the way down through the age. She come to Him. She called Him "Lord." She knew who He was. She said, "I believe that Thou art the Son of God that should come into the world." There's a confessor; there's a believer with a impossibility in her heart for Him to do, but she's recognizing God's gift. She's recognizing God's Man, His Son; she's right at the spot. They're born prophets. Prophets are not made; they are born prophets. And a prophet or a seer, in one word, is considered in the Old Testament as eagles. And how I love to think of it in that way, as an eagle. I put much of my life in conservation, as you know, and studying wildlife, studying birds, wild birds, wild animals, learning their nature. I'm just a poor sinner saved by grace, but the gift that the Lord gave the prophets and made them prophets, they were God's mouthpiece. They had the Word of the Lord, and no prophet ever did do anything just upon his own desire. He did it first, after God had told him. That's right. And that's the way the Son of God, when He came, which was the God of the prophets, He said, "I only do as the Father shows Me to do." That's right. Prophets are foreordained. They're prophets. Now, there's a gift of prophecy in the church, that could be on one, then the next one, the next one, the next one, and so forth — of prophecy. Paul said you may all prophesy one by one. But there's a lot of difference between a prophet and a prophecy. A prophecy has to be judged by three witnesses (two or three) before it can be given or accepted in the church, according to the Scriptures. But a prophet, like the Old Testament prophet, they had the Word of the Lord. The translation was right to them. And they were known, because the Bible said, "If there be one among you spiritual or a prophet, I, the Lord, will make Myself known unto him, speak to him in visions, and reveal Myself in dreams. And if what this man says comes to pass, then hear him, for I'm am with him. If it doesn't, then don't hear him. I'm not with him. Don't fear him."

God through all ages has sent gifts, and recognitions, and signs to the people. Prophets has always been signs. Every time you see a prophet rise, you'd better be careful: judgment's on its road. Look at Noah; look at Moses. Look at Jeremiah before — 'fore going into Babylon. Look at John the Baptist 'fore the rejection of Israel. And oh, so forth, all along. Prophets are signs, and the Jews were commanded to believe these prophets. And when they come forth with these — with these message, God, through all ages, He was telling this wicked generation what they had done. And listen, every age that God sends a gift to the church, and the church receives it, it's a golden age for the church. But when the church rejects it, it's judgment for that age.

God does His Own choosing, by predestination, chose the prophets for every age. Notice it. He fixes the nature of that prophet to fit that age. (See?) He fits his style, whatever he does. He fits him whether he's educated or not educated. He fits the gifts, the manner that he'll preach in, the gifts he'll have. And the Message for that certain age, God's predestinated that certain thing to happen and there's not another thing can take its place. Care what it is, how many man-made achievements, nothing can take its place. He predestinated the man, maybe a ignorant man. He might have predestinated him another kind of a man. Whatever he is, He gives him his class, his — his gift, give him his nature, his style, and whatever it is, how he expresses himself, and whatever he does. He makes the man of the hour to catch the people of the hour. Right. He does it. At the end of each age, when the church has turned to the world and sin, and leaning upon man's interpretation of the Word. As ever, they always, at the end of the age, have got in such a mess by their theologians and priests until it's always a mess-up. Before we close this section on the messenger of the Laodicean Age, we must seriously consider these two thoughts. First, this age will have ONE Prophet-Messenger. Revelation 10:7, says, "When he (singular) shall begin to sound." There has never been an age where God gave His people two major prophets at one time. He gave Enoch (alone); He gave Noah (alone); He gave Moses (he alone had the Word though others prophesied); John the Baptist came ALONE. Now in this last day there is to be a PROPHET (not a prophetess — though in this age there are more women purporting to give God's revelation than men), and the infallible Word says that he (the prophet) will reveal the mysteries to the end time people, and turn the hearts of the children back to the fathers. There are those who say that God's people are going to come together through a collective revelation. I challenge that statement. It is a bald, invalid assumption in the face of Revelation 10:7. Now I do not deny that people will prophesy in this last age and their ministries can and will be correct. I do not deny that there will be prophets even as in the days of Paul when there was "one Agabus a prophet who prophesied of a famine". I agree that is so. BUT I DENY UPON THE INFALLIBLE EVIDENCE OF THE WORD THAT THERE IS MORE THAN ONE MAJOR PROPHET-MESSENGER WHO WILL REVEAL THE MYSTERIES AS CONTAINED IN THE WORD, AND WHO HAS THE MINISTRY TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE CHILDREN TO THE FATHERS. "Thus saith the Lord" by His unfailing Word stands, and shall stand and be vindicated. There is one prophet-messenger to this age. On the basis of human behavior alone, anyone knows that where there are many people there is even divided opinion on lesser points of a major doctrine which they all hold together. Who then will have the power of infallibility which is to be restored in this last age, for this last age is going to go back to manifesting the Pure Word Bride? That means we will have the Word once again as it was perfectly given, and perfectly understood in the days of Paul. I will tell you who will have it. It will be a prophet as thoroughly vindicated, or even more thoroughly vindicated than was any prophet in all the ages from Enoch to this day, because this man will of necessity have the capstone prophetic ministry, and God will shew him forth. He won't need to speak for himself, God will speak for him by the voice of the sign. Amen.

That man fell, like the seed has to fall. And then God begin to brood over that, after the fall. He brought up a — a Enoch, He brought up a Elijah, He brought up a Moses, He brought up prophet after prophet, trying to restore that image again. And, finally, upon the earth came the genuine image of God Himself again, which was God, the Logos made flesh and dwelt among us. Now that same Logos has a part, He has got a Bride, and the same Logos, this Word that cannot be tampered with, is brooding over the churches today, trying to bring back the Word to Its full manifestation. Which, the — the prophets was carriers to that Seed, and the church denominations has been carriers to the Seed now. He was God, the Logos, the Word that went out of God. When, He begin to brood upon the earth, and brought forth marine life. When the Spirit of God, the Logos, the Word, which God said, "Let there be," and there went the Logos, which is the Word. And the Word begin to... 'cause all this was in the Logos; the whole Word of God, the whole Bible, for every age. And as the Logos begin to breathe upon the earth, there come marine life; and building up, the bird life, on up to animal life. But, you see, Moses, being the correct prophet of God, not only had the fundamental parts, but had the identification of God. See, he was in line of duty, exactly what was promised for that age; not for the age of Noah, but for the age then. "I will take you to a land that's flowing with milk and honey." They were on their way, and Israel was identified with their prophet, Moses, with the Message of that age. God characteristics identified in Moses. A Pillar of Fire was following him. He also had the atonement in action; not speaking of it, but had it in action. Not what will be; what is right now! Notice, he had a brass serpent that had been lifted up for the sickness and diseases of the people, therefore Moses was practicing Divine healing. He had the atonement, the brass serpent symbolizing that God was in the camp, and the people were looking on that brass serpent and being healed. He also had a smitten Rock following him. And that was identifying God, to keep the Waters of Life among them, joy and salvation, that they would not perish but had everlasting Life. It was a type of... That smitten Rock in the wilderness was a type of Christ being smitten. Then, they were traveling in the line of promise. That was another identification, to showing God's characteristic. No matter how fundamental this other one was with the Word; he had the fundamentalism, plus the identification, and the characteristic of God among them. God identified Himself. Two prophets, both of them prophets, and both of them fundamental; but God identified His characteristics in Moses, because he had the characteristics of God with him.

And we find that that goes for a seasons, and then there is Words that God has spoken to come to pass. And then they all be getting mixed up; and then God sends us prophet on the scene, and that prophet vindicates that Word for that age, always. Go through the Church Ages, what we're supposed to have, see if you don't picture out those man down through the Church Ages as we see them, since the — the apostles. Now notice this, again. God spoke to Noah, and he was a prophet, told him about what was coming. He prophesied, and it happened. Now along come Joseph. Joseph, a perfect example, that was Christ in Joseph. Why, you notice, he was loved of his father, despised of his brothers, because he was a seer. They hated him, without a cause. The man couldn't help, what he was he was. And the other brothers hated him, a very good type of all ages. Always, when a seer comes on the scene, the rest of them hate him, for the same cause that they did Joseph. He couldn't help it. He re-... He could interpret their dreams; never was he wrong. He — he foretold things; never was he wrong. And his brothers hated him, without a cause. And, notice, his life portrayed Christ to us, exactly. Even sold, almost, for thirty pieces of silver, taken up out of the ditch; and set at the right hand of Pharaoh, the ruler of the world at that day. And every time he left the palace, they sounded a trumpet, and said, "Every knee bow, 'cause Joseph is coming." A perfect type of Christ in the Millennium; when the trumpet sounds and the... He'll come forth, and every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess to him. Notice, in his prison, he was a prophet. That's when he was sold and put in the prison, on account of Potiphar's wife. Then we find that in there the butcher and the baker, they both had a dream, and he interpreted the dream, and one was lost and one was saved. So did Jesus on the cross, exactly; one was lost, one was saved, when He was in His prison, tacked to the Cross. Just a perfect example. We find out that when Moses come on the scene now, now, Moses could-a not come in the same spirit or the same way, with the same message that — that Noah had. It was another age, to fulfill another word. God said, "Your seed will sojourn in a strange land, be a — a servant for four hundred years, then I'll bring them out with a mighty hand." But when Moses was called; took forty years of schooling, then forty years to get it all out of him again, then God called him by the supernatural Light, a Pillar of Fire laying back in a burning bush. And he knowed more about God, in five minutes, than he learned in forty years, because he was in His Presence. That's what I... When a man is in the Presence of God, then he knows something. He knows something. Not, he can't learn it in books. You can't learn God by books. Education take... You say, "He is D.D.D., Ph.D." That just takes him that much farther from God, to me. You don't know God by education. You know God by faith, and you believe Him. That's how you know God. And, yet, that's why I think our meetings, in the Divine Presence of God, ought to, spurring the people's faith to know that; no matter what science says, what the unbeliever says. Christ was sent to you, the believers. You have a right to enjoy His fellowship and His blessings, and everything that He died for. There you are. No man has a right to preach the Gospel until he's knelt on those sacred sands back there in the Presence of that Pillar of Fire, and heard the Voice of God speak to him. You know, the religions today can explain it all away, "And this happened, and That's gone. And This was for another age, and this." But a man that's ever met God, face to face, and talked to Him, there is no scientist or no devil, or nothing else, can come on that sacred ground. He was there where he met God, and he knows what he's talking about, and is no need of anybody else trying to tell him. God speaking in the ages, through His prophets, identifying Himself each time through the age that come on. Now along came Jesus of Nazareth. He was a prophet, too. The Bible said He would. Deuteronomy 18:15, Moses said, "The Lord your God shall raise up a prophet likened unto me, and to him shall the people hear." Now notice every age, all Israel, all the people believed that, the prophets, when they were identified prophets. Hebrews thirt-... Hebrews the 1st chapter, said, "God, in sundry times and divers manners spake to the fathers through the prophets; in this last days, through His Son Jesus Christ." You see, through His Son Jesus Christ. Notice, never changes His way; the same thing, always the continuity of God's Word. God never did use a system, never did use an organization, never did use groups. He uses one single person.
64-0409 THE.IDENTIFICATION.OF.CHRIST.IN.ALL.AGES

So, in each age, when God lots His Word for each age, then, when that Word is ready to be manifested. Now search the Scriptures; don't just take my word. When that Word is ready to be manifested, then God sends down a prophet and reveals the Word to His prophet. The Bible said, "The Word of the Lord came to the prophets. And He does nothing till He reveals it to His prophets." A prophet is who the... where the Word of the Lord came, like in the days of Noah, and the days of — of Elijah, and the days of — of Moses, and so forth. Jeremiah, and Isaiah, and who more could I say, that, He came to that. And they manifested, or fulfilled, that Word.

And, also, the simplicity, simplicity of the message and the messenger! Noah wasn't scientific. He wasn't an educated man. He was a poor farmer, humble, with a simple message. It was too simple for their high learning. So is it today! God always makes it simple, to get the people who will believe and trust Him. It's a different, just a different Message, but the same God. Now I want you to believe It and understand that God has spoke It. Jesus said they scoffed at His prophet, Noah. And as they scoffed in that day, so will they do it again at His Coming. They would do the same thing. That's the reason that Pharaoh drowned in the sea. He never recognized his day. He never recognized what was going on. He was too took up in the achievements of his scientific age, to build cities with slave labor. He was too — he was too busy, to recognize the opportunity that he had, and he turned God's prophet-messenger out into the wilderness. He didn't recognize it. That's the reason that things went the way they did. He never recognized it. If he would have only recognized the promised Word of God, to that people! And if the churches today would only recognize, if the churches would only recognize the Word of God that's made this promise for this hour, to the people, they wouldn't perish. If America could only recognize the constitution that she drawed up, she wouldn't be willing to take Bibles out of the schools, take the Name of God off of coins, and pledge allegiance under God. But she doesn't recognize it. Why? She is blind, naked. She can't recognize the blood of those precious boys that's died on the fields for this privilege. They are forgotten; they are dust.
64-0726M RECOGNIZING.YOUR.DAY.AND.ITS.MESSAGE

Now, the Word came to the prophet, always, He never changes. Malachi 3, said, "I'm God, and I change not." Noah was sent to a scientific age, with an unscientific Message. Noah was sent to an intellectual age, with an unintellectual Message. He was sent to an age of science, when he had a Message of faith and promise to a scientific age. So could you believe that a scientific age would believe an unscientific Message? An age of great intellectual, and then would you believe that they would have faith in something that seemed absolutely silly to the human mind? But God always does it in that way. Noah was a confirmed prophet of the Lord, and is God's Message of the hour. He had to believe that, the people had to believe his Message after he had been confirmed of the Lord, that it was God's Word, and God was going to keep His Word. Now it's the same thing today. We're at the end time. Now, those people ought to have known, see. Now, you noticed, Noah was a type of the Jews that'll be carried over through the Tribulation. Enoch was a type of the — of the real Message, of translation of the Church, for Enoch was taken up and then the flood came. And both of them... The first prophet, Enoch, was taken out of the way so Noah could go on with his — with his... God could go on with Noah. And now the Church will be taken away so that God can deal again with the Jews, the remnant of the Jews, the hundred and forty-four thousand, as we've been through it in the Scriptures here.
64-0816 PROVING.HIS.WORD

Then faith without works is dead; if you say, "I believe it," and don't make no act. Just like the Message, if you say, "I believe it," don't make an act, what good does it do? See? Noah went to work with his hammer and built an ark, to confirm what he was talking about. That's what we have to do, too. We have to go to work and prove our faith, by our works. Our works proves our faith. Moses had to do it, and Elijah had to do it. Every prophet in his age had to stand up and face these responsibilities. But many of them didn't do like Jonah. He run; they didn't.
65-0217 A.MAN.RUNNING.FROM.THE.PRESENCE.OF.THE.LORD

Look at the age of Noah, at the climax before judgment. What happened? Noah, it was only his own family that believed the man. The rest of them criticized him. And destroyed the whole world. In the days of Abraham, only Abraham's group that believed. When the angels went and preached to Sodom, only Lot and his wife and two daughters come out, and she turned back to a pillar of salt. In the days of Moses, only the elected of Israel come out. And Pharaoh hated him. In the days of Elijah, everything (almost) but seven thousand man, every one of them hated him, the whole nation. In the days of Jeremiah, why, they throwed unripe fruit at him, and called him a fanatic, because he laid on his side for so many days, and the other side, and — and taken things and made symbols. They hated him. Isaiah the prophet, he condemned that race so much till they sawed him in two with a saw. Right. John the Baptist. "He was a wild man down there, some screaming maniac." All but — but those disciples that he presented to Jesus Christ as a church! There it is. John made ready a people. How many did he have? You could count them on both fingers... both hands, your fingers, how many that John presented to Jesus when He come. Now, what about His second Coming? Think of it. But when the true Bible believers see the Word so openly vindicated for the age, they believe. There's no way to keep them from It, believe It. They even seal their testimony with their blood. They believe It. It's then it's to them, the predestinated, that for that certain age that sees and believes. Others just can't see It; they're blinded. Now, you say, "They can't see It." Now, like Balaam, why couldn't Balaam see That? He was a prophet, anointed. Why couldn't Pharaoh see It? When he seen the hand of God come down and perform miracles in there, it only hardened his heart. Is that right? Why couldn't Dathan see It, a Jew himself? Right out there, had come through the Dead Sea, and eat the manna every night, that fell fresh, and still couldn't see It. Why didn't Korah see It? Why didn't Caiaphas see It? He was the head religious man of the world at that time. Why didn't he see that was the Messiah? Why didn't Judas see It? Judas was right with them, walking with them, performing miracles with them. But the Word had to be fulfilled. The Bible says they was raised up to take that place. They was raised for that purpose. That's true. Romans 8 says that. Now the believers can see the Word is made flesh in their generation, God speaking. Now, them real true believers, them seven thousand (or was it seven hundred?) in the days of Elijah. Seven thousand is right. In the days of Elijah, there was seven thousand man out of about two or three million, that saw that That was right. Not even a hundredth of the people, hardly. But they saw It was right. They saw God manifested. That old widow that Elisha was sent to, she went to get those sticks, to make a cake, and just enough to make a cake for her and her son, and then die. But watch Elijah, he said, "Make me one, first. For, THUS SAITH THE LORD, the barrel will not fail and neither will the cruse run dry until the day the Lord God sends rain upon the earth." No question, she took right off to make the cake and give it to him. Said, "Make mine first, and then go make one for you and your son." For, she heard that man, and looked at him; she was a predestinated seed.

Moses, a man sent from God, with the Word of God, and on his journey taking Israel into the promised land, strictly with the commandment of God, he met another prophet, another anointed one that had a genuine anointing of the same Holy Spirit that was upon Moses. That's right. He was a prophet. The Holy Spirit was upon this man. His name was Balaam. We're all acquainted with him. Well, the very things, the same, the things — the things that the man said, is still taking place, about twenty-eight hundred years ago. "Thou art like a unicorn, O Israel. Whoever blesses you will be blessed. Whoever curses you will be cursed. Your strength, and mighty, how righteous are thy tents, O Jacob!" See, he couldn't help himself. He come there purposing in his heart to curse the people.
