Branham.org Caught Using False Eclipse Information As Fear Strategy:

"Message" cult pastors around the world are stirring up excitement over today's eclipse, using a toxic combination of the fear of current events and William Branham's statements. Each time international conflict arises -- especially with Russia -- victims of Branham's cult are held captive by sermons attempting to channel that fear towards Branham's doomsday predictions. Combine this with an event that at one time scared primitive natives on every continent, and we have a dreadful situation.

But are they being honest with the people?

In a recent article, Branham.org stated that the last time an eclipse swept across the United States was in 1776, the year the United States declared its independence. From their blog:

The last time we had a solar eclipse that was exclusive to the United States was in 1776, the same year our country gained its independance. The last total eclipse that was visible in the US was in 1979, but it was only visible in a couple states. You have to go all the way back to 1257 for an eclipse that touched only mainland American soil (without any island territories).

To a programmed cult follower, this is significant because William Branham often used mathematics (combined with false information) to suggest that 1776 was key to destruction. Though Branham predicted "doomsday" to be 1977 (by Divine Inspiration), cult leaders strategically repurpose and refocus his statements towards today.

Example:
Yesterday, fourth of July. Thomas Jefferson had signed the Declaration of Independence, him and the other board that was with him, and the Liberty Bell rang, and we was declared an independence, as a nation. According to history, there has never been a democracy at any time last over two hundred years. And that was 1776, July the fourth. And we're just eleven years left. Will it make it? No, can't, see. Eleven years. And, if it does, it'll break all history.

Did Voice of God Recordings follow Branham's strategy of erroneous facts to hold uninformed victims by fear?

In 1776, there was an eclipse visible from the United States. It does not appear to be as significant as branham.org claimed, however -- it was a partial eclipse, not total. It's path ran deep into Canada, almost near the North Pole.

When you compare the 1776 eclipse to those we've had in this century alone, it pales in comparison. Several total eclipses have passed over the United States.
