Billy Paul's First Marriage:

In "Message" mythology, Billy Paul was one "forgiven" for his annulled engagement to another woman before his current wife. Even though Branham mentions that Billy Paul was married on certain recorded sermons, Branham led his listeners to believe that the engagement was broken off or that he did not consent. Was it true? Most of the followers refuse to believe that Billy Paul was previously married since Branham taught so harshly against remarriage after being engaged to another woman. In fact, most of the following believe that one cannot be "saved" if they remarry after having been engaged to another.

The question was asked the other day, "Was a annulment—annulment—an annulment the same as a divorce?" See? When you ask me those questions, friend, you don't know what that does to me. I've got many friends setting here that's married two or three times. Did you realize I'm talking to my own son, Billy Paul? Would I spare Billy Paul? No, indeedy. Billy Paul got married to some little girl, and come up, and said, "Daddy, I'm going to get married." I was washing my car; I said, "Butt your head against the wall," just kept on washing my car like that. He said, "I'm going to get married." I said, "Oh, go on," just kept on like that. He goes around and tells his mother, and his mother laughed at him. You know what he done? Run off with some little kid still in common school and got married. We annulled the wedding, the father of this girl and myself. We annulled the wedding, but he was married just the same. He's my boy setting here listening at me now. That's exactly.
Branham, 64-0830M - Questions And Answers #3

On recorded tape, William Branham condemned not only the men and women who did this, but the pastors who officiated the weddings. Yet we find Branham remarrying his brothers multiple times to multiple women after multiple divorces. Can we really say that William Branham practiced what he preached? Was he really a "seventh age messenger" who brought us "original truth?" Or was he a hypocritical man who did not believe the cult doctrine he was presenting?

"When you're engaged to her, as far as God is concerned, you're married to her."
Branham, 65-1125 - The Invisible Union Of The Bride Of Christ

That shows what kind of a spirit is in people, when they love that kind of a Hollywood tommyrot, filth and dirt: married several times, living out there like dogs, and then come around and—this stuff. And then people stay home from prayer meeting. It shows where their heart's at.
62-0628 - A Greater Than Solomon Is Here

Branham leads his listeners to believe that he did not consent to the marriage. Yet the marriage application clearly states, "Consent of father WM. Branham." Branham claimed that she was just a "little kid still in common school," yet she was only one year younger than Billy Paul, eighteen years old. Was he being truthful about this story?
