William Branham - How Could I Forget That:

Recently, a number of people from around the world have been visiting our Government Records page. The split at the Branham Tabernacle and the alleged theft of property raised curiosity for those wishing to look into the dirty secrets of William Branham's sons who are accused by the former deacons of stealing what rightfully belongs to the people.

But curiously, most of the traffic is not navigating to the government records that paint an image of theft and tax fraud into their minds. Most of the traffic cannot get past the first few records. To suddenly learn that William Branham used the year 1908 in his marriage to Hope Brumback is puzzling.

Often when a cult pastor or missionary recruits for the "Message," the recorded sermon used is "How An Angel Came To Me, And His Commission" (55-0117) And according to this and other life stories, William Branham's birth year is significant -- Branham claims that an astronomer could peer into his life to tell him that he was born under a planetary alignment.

Listen to Branham's version of the story, describing an event long before his marriage to Hope Brumback:

For instance, one day my cousins and I was going down through a—a carnival grounds, and we was just boys, walking along. So there was a little old fortune teller sitting out there in one of those tents, a young lady, nice-looking young lady, she was sitting there. And we was all going, walking by. She said, "Say, you, come here a minute!" And the three of us boys turned around. And she said, "You with the striped sweater." That was me. And I said, "Yes, ma'am?" I thought she maybe wanted me to go get her a Coke, or something another like that. And she was a—a young woman, maybe in her early twenties, or something, sitting there. And I walked up, I said, "Yes, ma'am, what could I do for you?" 164 And she said, "Say, did you know there's a—a Light that follows you? You were born under a certain sign." I said, "What do you mean?" 165 She said, "Well, you were born under a certain sign. There's a Light that follows you. You were born for a Divine call." I said, "Get away from here, woman!" I started moving on, 'cause my mother always told me them things was of the devil. She was right. So I... That scared me.
Branham, 55-0117 - How The Angel Came To Me, And His Commission

Any familiar with William Branham's numerous retellings of his "life story" are fully aware that this date is a fixed position, a milestone in the mythology that became "the Message." It cannot be moved. The first question asked is, "How could he forget something like this? If his entire ministry depended upon a star in the heavens, God announcing his prophet to the "wise men" of the day, shouldn't he remember it? Would Mary and Joseph have forgotten such an event? Would Jesus have forgotten when Mary and Joseph told Him?

I ask myself the very same question. It's very similar to Branham's claim to have been visited by an angelic being in 1947 and given his "commission" to heal the sick, when he was already in a thriving "Healing Ministry" as early as 1942. How could he forget? And if he didn't forget, what advantage was there in being untruthful?
