After The Message: A Letter to Those Who Have Left

Let’s face it—leaving The Message is NOT easy, and those that insist we’re doing so to “live a life of sin” or to “partake of the world” or because we can’t “live the life” are the reason it’s not easy.

Suddenly, your entire community thinks you’re a heathen being led away from all things good and holy and into a life of debauchery and blatant sin.  Your desires to feed the flesh, they say, are causing you to reject the one and only true move of God in the world today and in so doing you are rejecting God Himself.  Your inability to follow the Prophet’s rules are the root cause of your issues and any evidence you have against William Branham, his teachings, his prophesies, Voice of God Recordings, well-respected Message ministers, or anything or anyone else associated with the message is simply an excuse.

The truth, however, is nearly everyone that leaves the message does so for one of three main reasons: either they identify a doctrine that does not agree with Scripture, or they lose confidence in William Branham as a result of studying his life and prophesies, or they are hurt by followers of the message either physically, emotionally, or spiritually so thoroughly that in an effort to preserve their sanity, their physical well-being, or the well-being of their children they feel there is no other option but to run.

Unfortunately, some of those that are harmed in the message keep running, searching for the harmony and authenticity that was lacking within.  Some run into vices and addiction, some run into lives of frivolity and little forethought, and some run into self-destructive patterns of behavior. Some run so hard in an effort to escape the pain that they really do run from God—but make no mistake about it: those injured by people in the message and by the spiritual abuse in the message do not run away from their abusers because they are feeling rebellious against God, but because of the scars left by those who have mistreated them.

For the most part, those that are most often labeled as ‘Dathan and Korahs’ or ‘serpent seed’ leave in order to live Christian lives, raise their families up in Christian homes, and continue seeking the Lord. Those that are on the forefront of the ex-message community are God-fearing people reaching back into the community full of hurting people that they themselves escaped. And they do all this for the benefit of those in the message to the Glory of God.

For those that left after finding doctrinal issues, Praise the Lord! I wish you the very best on your journey into all Truth.  I pray that God continue to reveal Himself to you from His Holy Bible, and that the Truth you find is freeing and life-giving. Jesus told us in John 8:32, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” It is my sincere hope that you WILL know the Truth, and that you will not settle any doctrine of man again simply because of whom it is that speaks to you or because of any credentials they have or claims they make. Instead I pray that you will take everything back to the Bible, for the Scriptures are written so that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of God, and in believing we may have Life in His Name (John 20:31).

For those that can no longer trust William Branham because of the lies and falsehood in his life story, his prophesies, or his bible teaching I urge you to not lose faith as a result of it. William Branham did lie about himself and he did make false prophesies, and he did twist scripture, but don’t fear! There is truth to be found in Scripture for anyone who longs to know.  Many times those in the message will try and throw the Holy Bible under the bus in an effort to excuse the falsehoods in the message--Voice of God Recordings published an article that did just that, explaining how it’s okay for the message to have errors since the Bible has (perceived) errors too.  Search out the Scriptures, study and know that it is noble and honorable in the sight of the Lord to diligently study in order to find Truth. Acts 17:11 tells us of the Berean Jews who did just that, and they are recorded in the Word as being of noble character. In 2 Timothy 2:15, Psalm 119:11, Hosea 4:6, 2 Peter 1:2-3 study and knowledge of the things of God are encouraged and praised! Do not fear study, and do not fear questions.  For it is my sincere belief that there is not a question you can possibly possess that God is not willing and able to answer.

And lastly, to those that left the message because of the abuse physically, emotionally, and spiritually taking place within it from the very tapes recorded over 50 years ago to the individual lives of thousands of message believer families across the world—know that you are NOT alone, that you are loved, and that your life can and will be beautiful and fulfilling.  What has happened to you is nothing unusual within this kind of environment and even if you feel like the only person in the world that understands the pain you are feeling please believe me when I say there is absolutely nothing you can be feeling, or experiencing, or thinking that others have not been through.  My heart aches for you, and if I could I would rewind the clock to prevent the devastation that you have seen and felt in your lifetime. But since I cannot, I can only offer you my deepest and most heartfelt tears of grief on your behalf and my promise to be here for you if you need support.

A special note as well to those reading this that are still in the message as well—God’s Word promises that you can obtain Truth (John 8:32, John 16:13, Psalm 145:18). Do not place things anymore upon the shelf, but search the Scriptures and get answers to your questions and verification for your beliefs from the Word of God and from the historical record! In the same way Christian historians and archeologists continue to search and seek more and more evidence and facts to corroborate the truthfulness of the Word of God in order to build the faith of Christians and spread the Good News to the world at large, you owe it to yourself, to your families, and to those whom you insist on holding to message standards to verify the truthfulness of the things you are saying.

But most importantly—you deserve to know the facts as a Child of God, and God is not in the business of turning away those that sincerely seek answers to their questions.  Remember Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” That is a promise! Claim it for yourself, and take God at His Word! You may not be expecting the answer He gives you when you begin your journey seeking Truth, but God WILL answer you and will not leave you empty handed and continually searching for answers. The only thing He asks is that you commit yourself fully to Him alone and that you seek His face.

The road is not always easy, but know that He will never leave you or forsake you.  We’re here for you, too.

With Love
