One of the most common and interesting programmed responses we hear as we tell others that we decided to leave the religious following of William Branham to follow Christ is "YOU ARE OF YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL!"  I say interesting, because when thrown at us as an insult, it aligns with the "message" of Branham.  That is how his followers are trained to view other Christians who do not follow the extra-biblical 'revelations' that Branham promoted.  But when taken in context of the scripture, it exposes the fruits of the following.

Though every single person's journey to Christ is different, many started their exodus after learning that many of the fictional stories, "spiritual events," and other teachings we held dear simply were not true.  In a state of shock, we share this information with others and receive the insult.

John chapter eight tells the story of when Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees with the "Serpent's Seed" doctrine.  Following endless genealogies, the Jews placed spiritual significance in the bloodline of Abraham and took pride in knowing that they were included in what they thought to be the Royal Seed of Abraham.  Having endured the curse of the Law with a punishment of exile and captivity, they were focused on identifying the Jews that were a product of mixed marriage with Gentiles.

But unlike the Christians today that would rather follow truth, Jesus told them that they had no love for the truth.  During the conversation that ensued, Jesus made the statement we are all familiar with: "If you abide in my Word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."

The Jews turned back to their "Serpent's Seed" doctrine, telling Jesus that they were the offspring of Abraham.  But while their bloodline as true, Jesus told them that the Royal Seed of Abraham were lovers of the truth.  He rebuked them, telling them that He was telling them the truth and they refused to listen.

Again, the Jews turned back to "Serpent's Seed," telling Jesus that their bloodline was true.  They were not born of sexual immorality, but were of a true bloodline.

As the conversation progressed, Jesus made the statement that is now being thrown as a programmed response.  But notice:  the programmed response used as an attack on other Christians is only a small portion of the statement Jesus made.  The fruits of Branham's ministry do not seem to be the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.  Those attacking know Branham's statement using a portion of this sentence, but are unaware of the full context of scripture.

The sad truth is that many of these people are pastors and elders in the church.

Jesus said, "You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.  But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.  Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?  Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God." - John 8:44-47

The most interesting part of this passage is describing Satan himself:  "When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies."

The Christians leaving the message to follow Christ are attacked from behind pulpits simply for pointing out a statement by William Branham that has been proven a lie.  Some examples given:  Three birthdates, two of which are tied to spiritual events -- and the 1909 date pastors promote is not what Branham himself signed to government documents.  His wife smote dead by the "god of wrath" for his not joining the Pentecostal movement -- when we have newspaper articles describing Hope and William in a Pentecostal church before marriage.  "Huckleberry Finn" stories in the hills of Kentucky while census records show Branham moved to Indiana before age three.  A father who supposedly died before William finished grade school -- when we have the obituary describing Branham preaching his father's funeral.

The list is very long, covering each and every milestone in Branham's life.  All of it showing Branham's character.  And Jesus said, "When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies."

Ask yourselves:  If Jesus Christ were here today, and He made this statement, which would he be referring to?  The person who is noticing the lies on recorded tape made by William Branham?  Or the man who is speaking those lies?
