The Secrets of a Cult Pastor

John Collins09/22/2013Video available here:

This video includes a clip from the testimony of Fred Sothmann that we have been receiving questions about.

The prophets foretold of the coming messiah. The Son of God that would take away the sin of the world.

Jesus Christ, God's only Son, who offered himself as the eternal Sacrifice

Cult pastors are trained to teach the Jesus that Branham taught. But is this jesus of the bible the same Jesus that branham proclaimed?

"At this point of the reading of the Scriptures, that Jesus' ministry had become very popular. About seventy percent of His ministry was upon Divine healing."

Seventy percent of his ministry? Did William Branham believe that Jesus have the power to heal?

"Now, if the people would've doubted Him, that He was the Son of God, that He was the Healer Divine, they could've not been healed. Even His prayer for them would've not have healed them. His hands would've not have--laying upon them would've not have healed them. Jesus never took credit for healing anyone. He said, 'Thy faith has made thee whole.' Is that right? 'Thy faith has saved thee.'"

Which has the power to save? Faith in faith? or faith in christ? Did lazarus have faith? ...after he was already dead?

Did William Branham claim to be more powerful than Jesus Christ?

"As many times in a meeting, I'll take any cross-eyed child you've got in this meeting, you bring it up here without even praying for it, and just let me look at it straight in the eyes like that, I'll make its eyes come straight."

Did Branham's associates believe that Branham was greater than Jesus Christ?

"Do you know that brother Branham did more than Jesus Christ did? Jesus Christ always done things by a vision. Brother Branham says, 'Now this is not no vision! And cursed be the person that'll open your eyes and lift your head up when I tell you to put your head down and close your eyes! And he healed a blind woman in Chicago. And things like that, creating squirrels! That's greater than Jesus done! Jesus took fish and made more fish. But he never created anything! But brother Branham created! Fred Sothmann, 2012

What was the "gospel" that William Branham taught in his ministry?

"Tonight, I promised you I was going to talk about a-a Gospel subject and ... See, Divine healing is--that's the bait that's on the hook. As I said the other night, you don't never show the fishy the--the hook, you show him the bait. And so we... That's what Diving healing... Jesus Christ, about eighty percent of His ministry was on Divine healing."

The ministry of Christ was only the "bait on the hook?" What was the focal point in Branham's "gospel"?

"Now, He promised that, so that sets the Bible just exactly to this day, and the Sodom and Gomorrah. And Elijah was not... That wasn't Elijah; That was the Spirit of God on Elijah; Elijah was just a man. Now, we've had Elijahs, and Elijahs' coats, and Elijahs' mantles, and Elijahs' everything. But the Elijah of this day is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is to come according to Matthew the seventeen-... Luke 17:30, says the Son of man is to reveal Himself among His people. Not a man, God! BUT HE'LL COME THROUGH A PROPHET!"

When the son of man reveals himself. Branham's gospel.

"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
Acts 4:12

"The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it."
Luke 16:16

Did William Branham believe that the Son of God died on the cross for our sins?

"The Spirit left Him, in the garden of Gethsemane. He had to die, a man."

Did William Branham believe Jesus was the Son of God?

"Remember, Jesus was a Man; God was in Him. There come a time, where the Spirit that was leading the Lamb, the Dove. There had to be a conference between the Lamb and the Dove. And they formed a place to set it. After the supper that night, they crossed over a little brook Cedron, and... or somewhere, and went across the brook, and went into a garden called Gethsemane. They had to have a conference. God and Christ had to talk it over. The Lamb and the Dove had to set together. It was the Dove that had to talk to the Lamb, and it was the Lamb's death. Now, when they set by that rock, and all the Angels come down from heaven to listen in to this conference. Oh, there was Gabriel, Michael, Woodworm, all the thousands of them setting around the rock."

The Lamb, Jesus Christ was just a man? the archangel Michael watching a mortal? Who did Branham believe Michael the archangel was?

"Michael was Christ, of course, Who fought the angelic wars in heaven with the devil. Satan and Michael fought together, or fought against each other, rather."

I thought he just said that Michael was sitting in the garden watching Jesus! Could it be that William Branham was teaching a different Jesus? Was the cross of calvary the greatest event in Branham's "gospel?"

"And He must die, and Gethsemane was facing Him."

"He died more death in Gethsemane than He did on the cross."

Did Branham's "gospel" teach salvation to the Gentiles through Jesus Christ?

"Now remember, Jesus was not sent to the Gentiles or none of His church was sent to the Gentiles. He was sent to the Jews. He came to His own, and His own received Him not. When He sent His disciples, said, "Don't go to the Gentiles, but go rather, to the lost sheep of Israel." Is that right? He was sent to the Jew."

Does this match scripture?

"He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."
Mark 16:15

"And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. Now the woman was a GENTILE, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And he said to her, "Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." But she answered him, "Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." And he said to her, "For this statement you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter." And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone."
Mark 7:24-30

Who did William Branham believe would offer salvation to the Gentiles?

"My ministry is just a little later sign to the Church than laying on of hands. Laying on of hands was a Jewish custom. When Jairus' daughter was dead, Jairus said to Jesus, "Come, lay Your hands on her." But when the Roman Gentile, his servant was sick, he said, "I'm not worthy that You even come under my roof, just speak the Word." That's it. Now, we've had signs of laying on of hands, all down for two thousand years. But now, we're at the closing of the age. It's something different now. My ministry is to--is this--it's through a Spirit of discernment, that it might manifest Jesus Christ's Presence, that Lamb that we are speaking of that's been slain."

The work that Christ did on the cross 2000 years ago was not sufficient? Which bible was Branham teaching from?

"Let us read both the King James version and the translation by Dr. Lamsa. To our gratification we find the words in both amazingly the same so that there is no difference actually in content or doctrine."

Did Lamsa's "gospel" teach the same Jesus, the Son of God who died on the cross for the salvation of both the Jews and the Gentiles?

"And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
Matthew 27:46 KJV

"And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, Eli, Eli lemana shabakthan! My God, my God, for this I was SPARED!"
Matthew 27:46 LAMSA

The gospel of William Branham? Or the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
